There were no known building codes pertaining to the construction of a barn in
the early 1900’s. The single story additions are not recorded and may have preceded the
codes enforced today. Later renovations, however, would have required building permits
and inspections, and many are documented at the Danvers Building Department. The
Barn, in particular, saw many different uses and all were grandfathered under Massachusetts’
Law. No renovations were extensive enough to bring the complex up to current
standards.
